Can some1 plz help me how can i stop our cats from scratching the new lounge chairs?
My inlaws gave us this new lounge set and now the cats won't stop scratching on the corners and it is driving me CRAZY running after them with a spray bottle 2 stop them. They usually do it when they 1st come inside & after their dinner. Any help would be much appreciated.

try to get a couple new scratching post for them. Try one for each cat, also if you can get one if you don't already a cat tower with the carpet all over it.
i heard that cats don't like the sticky side of scotch tape. kind of a pain to put double sided tape all over everything though.
trim their nails often and put up some scratching posts where they like to claw your furniture.

Put up something to block their access to all corners for now. Until they get the idea that the scratching posts are much better and you don't squirt them in the face when they use them.

Give them a treat of somekind when they use the scratching posts, so they get rewarded....or give them a lot of praise if they love to be petted, then do that when they use the posts.
it helped when we got our cat declawed :)
Have you heard of a product called Sticky paws? they are things to stick on the furniture and because there sticky cats won't scratch them! Cats hate sticky things.Sticky Paws are transparent sticky strips that apply directly to carpets, furniture or anywhere cats can scratch. The sticky feel of the strips discourages cats from scratching that area. Easy to apply and remove, Sticky Paws can be used on furniture, curtains, carpet, stereo speakers, window and door screens and more. Sticky Paws are safe, non-toxic, odourless and won't leave a sticky residue

Another is soft claws-which is the australian versian of Soft paws.-Cats need to be kept indoors though with these nail caps!

Remember its completely unfair to stop a cat from scratching, its instinct, and neccessary for cats to scratch.

you need to provide an appropiate solution such as s decent size scratching post.
Declawing is illegal in australia! Even if your not in australia, please DON'T EVER declaw your cats, its cruel!
buy some new scratching posts for them. If they dont use them, spray some catnip which will make them want to use it. Keep on spraying them with the water when they do scratch. When they use the scratching post, reward them with a treat. If they keep on scratching the couch then put a couple of rocks or marbles in a container and shake it around when they scratch. This will scare them.

Hope i helped and good luck X
